Love Thy Curves

With society's idea of "ideal" beauty plastered across every TV channel, magazine spread, and billboard we see, we are called to truly look at what our own ideal is. Is the number on our clothing tag truly a measure of who we are? Someone once said, "It's not about what size you wear. It's about how you wear your size." I couldn't agree more.

Looking and feeling beautiful and sexy is so important for women. These feelings are especially important when you are adorning yourself with lingerie. So how do you feel amazing in your lingerie as a plus size woman?

Look for pieces that inspire you. Do lace and ribbons make you make you feel like a goddess? Maybe leather gives you an adrenaline rush that takes your libido to new heights. Have you always wanted to dress up like a school girl for your lover? Now is the time to explore colors, textures, and styles to find those that hug your curves in a way that makes you (and your lover) loose your breath.

Corsets, costumes, body stockings, teddies, babydolls... the options are as endless for you as they are for a size two if you know where to shop.

Just remember, when you put on your new lingerie, embrace your voluptuous curves.

Choose Your Perfect Garter Belt

Lingerie can be both erotic and functional. The garter belt is definitely no exception. Beginning in the 1940s, garter belts served as a less cumbersome alternative to the girdle to hold up a woman's stockings. Today, they serve multiple purposes - holding up a stockings throughout the day or adding some spice to the bedroom. A garter belt adds a touch of retro glamour to your sexy ensemble.

Garter belts look much the same today as they did when they first were introduced. They range in waistband thickness from two to six inches. The garter straps (also known as the suspenders) are the fabric that hangs down from the garter belt itself and are found in varying numbers ranging from two to eight, depending on the belt. The straps are made from elastic and have hour-glass shaped hooks with rubber circles or metal clips that connect to the stocking to hold it up. There are so many style options today that you are sure to find one to suit your taste.

One of the first things to consider when garter belt shopping is what your intended use is. Do you want one to hold your stockings up throughout the day? Or are you looking for one to wear for your lover in the bedroom?

If you are shopping for all day wear, then you will want to choose a garter belt that is wide and sits high on the waist. This style sits better under your clothes. Consider how many straps there are. The higher the number of straps, the more stable the stockings will be without the need for adjustments throughout the day. Six straps are better than four when it comes to wearing seamed stockings.

If you are choosing a garter belt to wear only in the bedroom, then you can look for something that sits lower on the hips, has a thinner belt, and less straps. Since you won't be wearing it long, shopping for something that will stay put for a long day's wear isn't a worry.

Women should choose a garter belt that lays flat against their skin without bunching up, rolling down, or causing bulges. Taking a moment to measure your waist will help you find the correct size to achieve the best look.

Panty Styles Made Simple

What style do you choose to adorn your derriere? Panties do more than just cover your butt. They lift, contour, and accentuate.

Wearing the right panties can lift your confidence and help you polish your look. There are so many styles to choose from that choosing the right ones can be a daunting task.

Here is a simple guide to the most common styles.

Style: G-String
Rear Coverage: None
The Scoop: G-strings have next to no rear coverage, making them a super sexy option. They only offer coverage in the front with a thin string around the waist. They create no visible panty lines, so they are a great choice to wear with tight pants, jeans, and dresses.

Style: Thong
Rear Coverage: None
Details: Thongs have a narrow strip of fabric in the back, leaving most of the butt uncovered. There are a variety of styles available. These are worn well with tight jeans, pants, or dresses since they leave no visible panty lines.

Style: Brazilian
Rear Coverage: Partial
Details: This style offers more rear coverage than thongs, but less than bikinis. They provide a perfect cut to accentuate your curves. They are great for clothes with very low waistlines and tight skirts.

Style: Bikini
Rear Coverage: Partial
Details: Bikinis are worn low around the hips and have thin waistbands. They do not have full rear coverage but offer some. This style is a great choice for those who find thongs a little too revealing for their comfort. Bikini panties are often found in cotton or silky synthetic materials.
These can sometimes cause challenges for certain booty types; wedgies or the need to keep pulling them up when they sit below the crack line are common.

Style: Hipster
Rear Coverage: Full
Details: These provide more coverage than bikinis but are skimpier than briefs. They are worn low around the hips. There are also hipsters that can cover a tummy bulge. They are available in a wide variety of fabrics. This style works well with low pants and miniskirts.

Style: Brief
Rear Coverage: Full
Details: This is the classic fit style of underwear. They are designed to fully cover the hips and butt. Briefs come in a variety of waist heights, depending on how high or low you like to wear them. French-cut briefs have a higher-cut leg. These can be found in all types of fabrics, from silky synthetics to cotton and lace. This style offers good support and is flattering on any booty type.

Style: Control Brief
Rear Coverage: Full
Details: Like girdles, control briefs are high-waisted panties that provide full coverage all the way up through the stomach. They are designed to give extra support, flattening the tummy and shaping the butt. They are generally made out of synthetic fabrics but usually have a cotton crotch panel. They work well under tight dresses.

Style: Boyshorts
Rear Coverage: Almost Complete
Details: Boyshorts are also called boylegs. This style rides low on the hips and are usually cut lower around the thigh. They are styled after men's underwear, so they can be quite comfortable yet sexy. This versatile cut of panties works great under tight pants and skirts, as well as being worn as loungewear. They come in a variety of fabrics, from lace to simple cotton.

Bras & Breasts

Looking good means feeling good. Achieving a perfect fit creates a good look. Do you see where I'm going with this? Looking good is not about being a certain size or shape, it is about fitting your beautiful body in a way that flatters and makes you feel like a vixen.

Let's talk bras and breasts. Did you know that 85% of all women wear the wrong bra size or shape? Knowing this, it isn't surprising that 65% of women need more lingerie comfort. The average woman’s breasts change shape, size and distribution at least six times in her life! This is due to weight loss or gain, birth control or pregnancy, dietary changes, exercise, medications or age. A badly fitting bra can cause back problems, muscle tension, and even headaches. It can also result in the blockage of lymphatic drainage or poor circulation, which could lead to a breast disease.

Your bust has no muscle and depends on an outside source of support. Most of the common bras on the market are only covers, not support. Since 90% of the bra support is provided by the band, only 10% comes from the shoulder straps. During running, your breasts move an average of four inches in three different directions (up and down, side to side and forwards and backwards)! No wonder it can be painful or make you weary of black eyes. Wearing an encapsulated sports bra reduces breast movement by up to 73% compared with bare-breasted running.

One style of bra may fit one woman just right and be absolutely wrong for someone else, even though the size is the same. Each manufacturer has a slightly different method of sizing, so you just can’t be sure what size will work best for you. This is why it is important to measure even if you think you know your correct size.

Time has even changed our breasts. Over the past ten years breast size has grown from a 34B to a 36C because of the changes in our lifestyles, foods and additives, hormones and preservatives. J cup is now more common than DD cup was twenty years ago. Twenty years ago, the average age of a teen starting with her new bra was thirteen. Nowadays, girls are starting their first bras at eight. Since teens are still growing they should be fitted by a lingerie specialist once a year or after every noticeable growth spurt. A poorly fitting bra can lead to life long problems with posture and back pain.

So go ahead... find your perfect fit and embrace your beautiful body!
